Juventus defender Gleison Bremer will undergo surgery after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during their UEFA Champions League clash with RB Leipzig, the club confirmed on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Brazilian was forced off just six minutes into Juve's 3-2 win over Leipzig on Wednesday, with Federico Gatti coming on to replace him.

In a statement, the club said: "Gleison Bremer and Nico Gonzalez underwent diagnostic tests ... which revealed an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Bremer's left knee and a low-grade injury to the rectus femoris in Gonzalez's right thigh. Bremer will undergo surgery in the coming days."

Since joining Juventus in 2022, Bremer has been a key figure in their defense, playing every minute of this Serie A season and helping the team keep clean sheets in all six matches.

Is Gleison Bremer's replacement on Juventus' radar?

According to Calciomercato, Juventus could turn to a familiar face, whom manager Thiago Motta knows, to replace the injured Gleison Bremer in January.

The report notes that Dutch center-back Sam Beukema, who Motta brought into the spotlight at Bologna last season, is said to be a top target on the list recently given to sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.

The 25-year-old has been with the Serie A rival since 2023, making 41 appearances while scoring two goals and recording two assists. As for how much the player could cost, Transfermarkt puts the player's transfer value at €18 million.

It will be interesting to see what target Juventus decides to pursue to bolster their depth and ensure they don't miss Bremer's presence in the starting XI.
