The legal dispute between Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo is ongoing. After the Arbitration Panel partially sided with the Portuguese player, ordering the club to pay him just under €10 million.

However, the club has now announced that it has filed an appeal, as mentioned in the statement that disclosed the financial figures for June 30, 2024. The situation started when Ronaldo left Juventus on transfer deadline day to rejoin Manchester United in August 2021.

Why are Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo in a financial spat?

Ronaldo signed a release form stating that the club didn't owe him any more money, even though some of his wages were still outstanding.

In April 2024, the UEFA Euro 2016 winner appealed the decision, and the ruling was partially in his favor, requiring Juventus to pay him €9.8 million. There was some disarray surrounding this, as these earnings were ones Ronaldo had officially conceded to help the club during the pandemic in 2020.

Nonetheless, it later came to light that many players had privately agreed to receive those salaries back in different forms, such as bonuses and sponsorship agreements.

"Regarding the arbitration proceedings initiated by former player Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro on June 19, 2023, the ruling communicated on April 17, 2024, indicates that the Arbitration Panel, by majority vote, partially accepted the former player's request," the statement began (h/t Calcio e Finanza)

"They determined that Juventus was pre-contractually liable for the failed negotiations and ordered the club to pay approximately €9.8 million—half of what Ronaldo initially requested, which was around €19.6 million—plus interest and monetary revaluation.

"Juventus has since made this payment to Ronaldo in the 2023/2024 fiscal year. Additionally, on September 26, 2024, Juventus filed an appeal against the ruling with the Labor Section of the Court of Turin."
