Juventus' USMNT star faces injury setback amid growing criticism
By Eduardo Razo
USMNT standout Timothy Weah faces another setback to his recovery as he attempts to get back onto the pitch for Juventus. Moreover, the 24-year-old is on the receiving end of criticism, too.
It's been a challenging start to the season for Weah as the American forward suffered a Hamstring muscle injury that caused him to miss three matches. After playing in the scoreless draw against Napoli on September 21, the winger has suffered another injury.
According to Sky Sport Italia (h/t TuttoJuve), Weah has suffered an ankle injury that will prevent him from playing against Genoa. He's also at high risk for the Champions League match against RB Leipzig on October 2.
Timothy Weah receives criticism for his form
Maurizio Compagnoni, a journalist appearing on Sky Sport, analyzed Thiago Motta's Juventus, pointing out critical areas and strengths, especially following their league match against Napoli. Additionally, he took a shot at Weah, noting that the American isn't the answer at the No. 9 position.
"Juventus hardly ever takes shots on goal, and that’s a real issue," Compagnoni said (h/t TuttoJuve). "I don't agree with some of Motta's tactical decisions, particularly regarding Teun Koopmeiners: paying €58 million for a player like that just to have him play wide on the left doesn’t make sense. Vlahovic? Even at 40 percent, he’s a better option than Weah as a center forward."
This season, Weah has made four appearances across all competitions while scoring one goal and registering one assist for the Old Lady. It will be interesting to see if he just misses one game or if this ankle injury turns into a lingering issue.
