The 27-year-old has been at odds with club head coach Gian Piero Gasperini following recent public criticism.

Lookman failed to slot home his spot-kick in the Champions League play-off defeat to Belgium outfit Club Brugge. This prompted Gasperini to lambast the Nigerian international, who he referred to as one of the “worst penalty takers” he has ever seen.

With Juventus tracking the hot-shot striker, as a potential summer replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, there is now stiff competition with a handful of Premier League clubs joining the chase to sign Lookman.

League leaders Liverpool as well as London teams Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham United have Lookman on their transfer wishlist.

After he scored a hat-trick in last year’s Europa League final, when Atalanta destroyed German outfit Bayer Leverkusen 3-0, Paris Saint-Germain made a sudden summer swoop.

Although Lookman verbally agreed to join the Ligue 1 champions, the deal never progressed. Juventus stepped up their interest and continue to be long-term admirers.

However, Atalanta may not proceed with allowing Lookman to join a major Serie A rival. Racking in the big bucks from overseas seems preferable.

Lookman going to PSG also seems unlikely in the summer, as the French giants secured the signature of Georgia forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli in January.

The former Everton, Fulham and Leicester City winger continues to impress in Serie A, and has helped to make Atalanta a serious title challenger this term.

Juventus head coach Thiago Motta will get to see Lookman’s dribbling skills, pace and scoring prowess first hand this weekend, when third-placed Atalanta visit the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
