Spalletti is on the ball to explore Juve's shotstopper routes

Conceding too many goals has been an issue for the Bianconeri ever since Thiago Motta was given the boot, with the finger of blame only pointed at the shaky defense.

Recently appointed Bianconeri boss Luciano Spalletti has been busy during the international break looking at all areas to improve. And between the sticks was included in his tasks, as shotstoppers Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin could soon prove to be surplus to requirements.

Juventus has been closely monitoring the situation of AC Milan and France no1 Mike Maignan, whose contract with the rejuvenated Serie A side expires at the end of June. There appears little chance of a contract renewal, with the Bianconeri in with a shot of luring him to Turin on a free transfer.

With Juve under the watchful eye of UEFA regarding their Financial Fair Play regulations, the fallen Italian giants will be aiming to offload players while replacing them with freebies.

Italy overlook Juve's Di Gregorio

Di Gregorio, who joined Juventus following a successful season-long loan from AC Monza, has yet to establish himself at international level for Italy. He is currently the first choice keeper under Spalletti, although 33-year-old Mattia Perin is biting at the bit to regularly start games.

With Di Gregorio having made a handful of errors this term, when Igor Tudor was head coach, then it seems viable for Spalletti to give Perin a chance.

Di Gregorio has, for the past two seasons, turned down opportunities to switch to the Premier League. He was wanted by Nottingham Forest last term, and the previous season rejected the chance to sign for Liverpool. Manchester City had shown serious interest, but signed Italy no1 Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Should Maignan opt for Juventus over Bayern Munich, no doubt the Bianconeri would cash in on Di Gregorio who would want first team minutes.

Patient Perin hunts regular minutes

Perin has patiently been waiting in the wings at Juventus, and may make a return to his former club Genoa. His Juve contract expires in a year, with no indication of an extension, meaning that the Bianconeri would welcome an injection of cash by selling him during the winter transfer window.

Genoa is exploring both buying former Italy international Perin, or signing him in January until the end the season. Daniele De Rossi, appointed as Genoa manager after Patrick Vieria was axed, has a good working relationship with Perin and is keen to bring in an experienced keeper who boasts leadership skills.

Spalletti's contract is only until the end of the season, although Juventus have included a clause with the former Napoli and Italy manager to tackle the 2026/27 campaign.

The 66-year-old, who has made a stuttering start in his three unbeaten games at the helm of the Turin titans, has his work cut out to smooth out the problems he has inherited. The squad is lightweight, lacking confidence and cohesion while there are numerous flops on top of contract chaos and potentially losing their top players.
