Dusan Vlahovic, who was expected to leave during the summer but turned down approaches from the Saudi Pro League and Turkish Super Lig, showed his value to Juventus with yet another goal.
The 25-year-old appeared as a second-half substitute, like last week's match against Parma, and repeated his perfect act with another winner as Juve defeated resilient Genoa 1-0 on Sunday.
It was a cagey opening half inside the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris, with Juventus only mustering two shots that both involved livewire Kenan Yildiz. The Turkish talent set up Federico Gatti five minutes from the half-time whistle, and was then denied by keeper Nicola Leali.
Juve manager Igor Tudor had declared in his pre-match press conference that Teun Koopmeiners would start, but it was Joao Mario who got the nod to replace suspended Andrea Cambiasco.
Mario, who arrived from FC Porto in the summer, created the first goalmouth action after eight minutes but his effort was blocked outside the penalty area by the well-drilled home defense.
The first save of the contest arrived midway through the opening half, Michel Di Gregorio preventing Mikael Ellertsson from converting Valentin Carboni's cross.
Following on from the two chances involving Yildiz, striker Jonathan David should have broken the deadlock on the verge of half-time only to sky his close range shot.
Juve were almost punished immediately for that dire miss, but Lorenzo Colombo screwed his effort from outside the box right of the target.
Colombo missed a six-yard sitter straight after the turnaround to jolt Juventus into action, but there was poor finishing from both Khephren Thuram and Lloyd Kelly.
Tudor tweaks do the trick
Tudor decided enough was enough and needed to shake some much-needed life into his team with a triple substitution on 62 minutes. Koopmeiners, Filip Kostic and Vlahovic were introduced for the largely ineffective trio of Manuel Locatelli, Mario and David respectively.
Genoa boss Patrick Vieira, a former Juventus midfielder, followed suit with Rusian Malinovskyi to add firepower and defensive midfielder Morten Thorsby thrown on.
Malinovskyi conceded the corner that led to the 73rd-minute headed goal from Vlahovic that beat Leali to send the away supporters wild, and even saw the start of a small smile from Tudor.
Enthusiastic Vlahovic, whose relentless runs and physical presence offer a completely different aspect upfront to goal poacher David, had immediately become involved since his arrival.
Vlahovic almost snatches a second
After Vlahovic came close to adding a second, only for his late effort to be blocked, the Bianconeri were under the cosh. Only woeful finishing saved their blushes, with Di Gregorio not required to stop last-gasp shots from Malinovskyi, Johan Vasquez and Calbe Ekuban.
The hosts almost squared matters, but Patrizio Masini's effort hit the bar to leave Vlahovic as the Juventus hero for the second week on the spin, courtesy of picking up the winner in style.
A two-week international break leaves the Bianconeri and Napoli sharing the honors at top of the Serie A, with the Derby D'Italia next for Juve when Inter Milan visit
