What’s at stake
Juve’s goal will be to push on from their comfortable 2-0 triumph over Parma, to remain in the mix towards the top of Serie A before the international break.
New center forward Jonathan David, sold silverware by the club and swiftly helped Igor Tudor clinch his first trophy as Juventus manager, will be aiming to find the net for a third successive match.
Genoa experienced a tough pre-season run-in, which included a friendly against Villarreal being cancelled. Head coach Patrick Vieira was left frustrated by the 0-0 result at home to Lecce, and the former Juventus midfielder needs to tweak his tactics to get Genoa’s fans excited.
Rarely do Genoa muster a Serie A victory over Juventus inside their Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris, with their last success a 2-1 win in May 2022.
Thiago Motta masterminded a 3-0 league win at Genoa last September, with a similarly hefty defeat for Veira’s troops on Sunday unacceptable for fans.
Recent form
Juventus are on an unbeaten run of five matches, which has been a brilliant bounce back following back-to-back defeats at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Their opening pre-season foray was a dreadful 2-2 result to Serie B side AC Reggiana behind closed doors, but the Bianconeri have come on leaps and bounds since then.
An impressive triumph at German giants Borussia Dortmund, was swiftly followed by a win over the Juventus Next Gen and the Bortolotti Trophy success at Atalanta.
Juve are still showing signs of defensive vulnerability, despite their recent rich vein of form. They are not being punished when exposed, but do have reliable shotstopper Michele Di Gregorio.
Vieira kicked off his pre-season friendlies with July’s labored 3-2 home win over Serie B side Mantova, followed by the planned trip to tackle Villarreal being cancelled.
more Genoa’s backline was prised open as Ligue 1 outfit Rennes battled out a 2-2 draw in France. The warm-up games concluded with a comprehensive 3-0 Coppa Italia victory over visiting Serie C club LR Vicenza, before Genoa’s tame display last weekend.
Head-to-head
Genoa failed to score against Juventus last season, thrashed 3-0 on their home patch in September and edged out 1-0 in Turin last March.
Their last meeting saw Turkish talent Kenan Yildiz come up with the only strike to kick off Tudor’s tenure as interim head coach.
The 2023/24 Serie A meetings between Juventus and Genoa both ended all square, scoreless in Turin and finished 1-1 in Genoa.
Juventus have proved to be the much more dominant team from their 38 Italian top-flight contests, drumming up 25 victories and only losing five times.
Team news
Goal poacher David should start as first choice target man, with reliable striker Dusan Vlahovic anticipated to be thrown on during the second half to add some clout and physical presence.
Creating scoring chances will fall once more on the shoulders of whizzy wingers Francisco Conceicao and Kenan Yildiz to tear down the flanks, especially as wing-back Andrea Cambiaso is serving a two-match suspension.
Nicolas Gonzalez, Filip Kostic or versatile Weston McKennie were initially expected to be given the nod to step in, although Teun Koopmeiners was citied at the pre-match press conference. Tudor has Juan Cabal (knee), Fabio Miretti (thigh), Mattia Perrin (muscle) missing because of injury.
Genoa will be hoping that striker Lorenzo Colombo can break their Serie A duck this term, having seen Italy center forward Andrea Pinamonti switch to newly-promoted Sassuolo over the summer.
The trio of Inter Milan loanee Valentin Carboni, Arthur Gronbaek and Romania skipper Nicolae Stanciu have impressed since recently joining Genoa.
Vieira can call on the return from injury of Leo Ostigard but Caleb Ekuban and Sebastian Otoa are still sidelined by muscle problems.
Players to watch
Genoa — Valentin Carboni
The Argentinian left-footed attacking midfielder came close to scoring in his first league outing for Genoa last weekend.
He is a handful for any opponent as he is capable of playing through the press, frequently utilized as a physical no10 although can be brilliantly creative sitting behind the team’s target man Colombo.
Juventus — Kenan Yildiz
The Turkish ace has registered 11 goal involvements across all competitions in Italy since March, and was exceptional in a neat one-two with supersub Vlahovic last week.
All eyes will be focused on how he links up with the two prolific goalscorers David and Vlahovic, to tear apart the Genoa defense like he tormented the Parma backline.
Juventus manager quotes — Igor Tudor
"I see Juve as a vibrant team that is constantly growing and changing, but we need to maintain the same spirit of daily work. Juve today has a clear identity and a precise mentality. We must not be satisfied, we must always stay on top of our game, whether we win or lose.
"Genoa is a team that knows how to play and runs a lot as a side. To get a result, we need to match that intensity, because we can hold our own in terms of quality. Playing at the Marassi is always challenging, so we'll need to be at our best to get three points.
"Bremer is showing his value and will continue to grow. Gatti and Kelly will push forward regardless of his presence, but his influence is evident.
"Nico Gonzalez is a player I have always admired, he is a starter for the Argentine national team, he can play on both the wing and up front, and I am delighted to have him with us.
"Koopmeiners will be a starter, there's no doubt about that. He’s on the right track. Kalulu has shown perfect movement in midfield, providing solidity and concentration, qualities that help the whole team."
Expected line-ups
Genoa possible starting XI :

Old Juve prediction
Genoa 0 Juventus 2
The Bianconeri possess a pretty good record in Genoa, and after some woeful finishing early on against Parma showed that they have the potential to be title contenders.
Their Rossoblu rivalsare notoriously slow starters in Serie A, having collected just two points from their past four league opening matches.
Juve will be eager to join defending champions Napoli and surprise side Cremonese on maximum points from their first two games before the international break, and with scoring sensations Jonathan David and Dusan Vlahovic at their disposal should breeze to victory.
