Juventus will be missing two important defenders against Sassuolo on Wednesday night.

Sassuolo sit in eighth place in Serie A and will be another difficult opponent for Juventus, who are coming off two disappointing results. After dominating derby rivals Torino, Juve blew a 2-0 lead to lose to Milan 4-2 and then drew Atalanta 2-2 in a game they would have lost if it weren’t for two handball-gifted penalties for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Here’s a look at how they could line up against Sassuolo this week.

GK Wojciech Szczesny

Juve will start Wojciech Szczesny in goal again, and it’s time the best goalkeeper in Serie A made some big stops to help the Bianconeri win points in the table. He’s not done much since the restart.

LB Alex Sandro

Danilo started for Alex Sandro in the last two games, but the left back should be fully fit to start. He played poorly off the bench in both recent matches, and he’ll have an important role to play against Domenico Berardi and Sassuolo’s dangerous attack.

More from Old Juve

CB Matthijs de Ligt

Matthijs de Ligt has been one of Juve’s top three players since the restart, establishing himself as the best young center back in the world. The Bianconeri are lucky to have him, and with Leonardo Bonucci out with an injury, he’ll need to cover for Daniele Rugani.

CB Daniele Rugani

With Leonardo Bonucci likely out due to injury and both Giorgio Chiellini and Merih Demiral still not fully fit, Daniele Rugani will probably get his second start in three games.

While Rugani played poorly against Milan, he was actually not as bad as Bonucci, who then had another stinker of a match against Atalanta. This is a big spot for Rugani, who will most likely be sold this year.

RB Danilo

Juan Cuadrado picked up a yellow card in the draw with Atalanta and will be suspended at Sassuolo. Therefore, Danilo will still start, albeit on his preferred side. Hopefully, that coaxes a better performance from the Brazilian in the attacking end, as he’s been one of the below-average performers for Maurizio Sarri in July.

CM Adrien Rabiot

Adrien Rabiot is starting to come into his own in Turin, and while he was part of the losing effort at the San Siro last week, he did score a wonderful first goal in the Black and White kit. Here’s to hoping for more individual brilliance from the French midfielder this Wednesday.

CM Miralem Pjanic

A surprise exclusion from the starting lineup against Atalanta due to injury, the regista was missed as the Bianconeri dropped points to the Champions League-quality side. Miralem Pjanic is a strong candidate to win Man of the Match, as he should be able to dominate Sassuolo’s midfield.

CM Rodrigo Bentancur

Even in defeat, Rodrigo Bentancur works hard and is a bright spot for Juventus. His defensive contributions have been a huge boost to the Bianconeri, as Bentancur continues to show why he’s an important part of the future at the Allianz Stadium.

LW Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalties bailed out Juve against Atalanta, and he’s now one goal behind Ciro Immobile in the leaderboard. The Portuguese sensation could have another brace in him on Wednesday, as he can thrive against Sassuolo’s questionable defense.

ST Gonzalo Higuain

Maurizio Sarri could do some maneuvering with his front line by taking out the underperforming Federico Bernardeschi and starting Gonzalo Higuain in the middle. Higuain is on the way out of Turin, but he can still help the team win the Scudetto by getting Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala involved as an unselfish target man.

RW Paulo Dybala

Juve’s best player since the restart, Paulo Dybala is untouchable. Defenses cannot take the ball off him, and he can score from absolutely nothing with his wonderful swerving efforts. Dybala should dance through Sassuolo’s defense for another goal.
