Sassuolo CM Manuel Locatelli

Manuel Locatelli is one of the best midfielders in Serie A. Like Gianluigi Donnarumma, he has the ability to become an elite Italian player over the next decade, and he is already pretty close to the world-class bracket.

We’ve seen Locatelli do it all for Sassuolo in this breakout 2020-2021 campaign. He carries the ball and starts attacks. He dictates play. He defends with his heart and soul. And even scores goals. Locatelli could start to become a more dangerous scorer, too, as he matures.

As tantalizing as it would be for Juventus to sign the 22-year-old Donnarumma in goal and have that position locked down for the next decade, Locatelli is by far the most important summer transfer target for the Black and Whites.

Locatelli would fill Juve’s biggest position of need. Not only do the Bianconeri need midfield help in general, but they more specifically require a regista who can both defend and provide attacking playmaking ability. Arthur Melo is a good player, but his defensive work and his progressive passing leave a lot to be desired, especially in comparison to Locatelli.

With 2.4 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game, according to WhoScored.com, Locatelli can replace Adrien Rabiot’s defensive contributions while adding a considerable attacking upgrade.
