He is the representative of the Nigerian and altogether African football entity on Italian soil. Signed for Lille OSC in the summer of 2020, Victor Osimhen is hailed as one of the brightest prospects of the game. With a frame of 6ft 2in, the Lagos-born sharpshooter racked up 10 goals from 1,573 minutes of Serie A football across 24 appearances last season.

When the general consideration is that the last season was only a warm-up amid new surroundings in a new league, the 2021/22 campaign could expect to see a rejuvenated Victor Osimhen. In Old Juve’s pre-season prediction for the Serie A 2021/22, James Cormack leaned towards him as the potential Capocannoniere winner.

Osimhen instinct in front of the goal is lethal. He produced an npxG [non-penalty expected goals] of 10.9 last season, making him that second-best on the list after Lorenzo Insigne among Napoli players. Equalling the metric, he, as mentioned before, was able to score ten goals in Serie A.

Anyway, it has not been a perfect start to the season for the Nigerian, with the athletic forward receiving the marching orders 23 minutes into Napoli’s curtain-raiser against Venezia. After missing the fixture against Genoa, Osimhen is set to return from a suspension, which was reduced to just a single game after the Napoli management had appealed the red card decision.

Osimhen’s imminent return to the line-up could be a massive boost to Napoli’s morale and conversely enhance the challenge for Juventus defenders. Osimhen is strong and tall. Keeping hold of such stature could prove to be the greatest pain in the backside for defenders who have looked far from convincing while patrolling the backline for the Bianconeri.
