The head coach has remained a free agent ever since his shock sacking, but he could soon be plying his trade in the Italian top-flight.
This term the Tuscan had been sounded out by a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. His wage demands were deemed too high for these leading English teams.
The 57-year-old, who has been studying English as he fancies a challenge elsewhere, is now being heavily linked with AS Roma and AC Milan.
Allegri won 12 trophies with Juventus that included five consecutive Scudetti (2015-2019), although his last stint in Turin was underwhelming.
Thiago Motta was prised from Bologna to replace Allegri, and Juventus could soon be kicking themselves about this seemingly harsh decision and subsequent appointment.
Project Motta isn’t going to plan, despite splashing the cash to bring in the players that fit in with the new head coach’s tactics.
The three-year-old plan could come crashing down, with the knives out for Motta to be axed from the Juventus Ultras, former Bianconeri players in the media and the press appearing to be on a witch hunt.
Allegri, if he doesn’t disappear to the Premier League or lucrative Saudi Pro League, may have a choice prove to Juve that they made a mistake if he can brilliantly bring back glory for Milan or Roma.
A reunion with Fabio Paratici, who enjoyed 11 years as a director at Juve, at Milan could appeal to CEO Giorgio Furlani as he is chasing a new sporting director and potentially a new boss to replace struggling Sergio Conceicao. Allegri and Paratici have not worked together since 2021.
Milan sacked head coach Paulo Fonseca in December, with Conceicao immediately installed, but things are not going to plan. A trio of former Juventus managers are being considered by Furlani that comprises Allegri, Antonio Conti and Maurizio Sarri.
Claudio Ranieri, appointed Roma head coach last November, has announced that he will step down from his role to serve as an advisor with the club. He is currently eyeing up a replacement manager at the Giallorossi, with Allegri on his wishlist.
The goal for these two former Serie A giants of Milan and Roma is to produce attractive-looking soccer, which results in winning trophies. These clubs will demand a tried and tested top-level coach, with Allegri ticking the boxes.
If Allegri can roll back the glory years for either team, the fact that Juventus kicked him out last May could come back to bite the Turin titans on the bottom.
