According to the Spanish website Fichajes, Bayern Munich and Juventus are both monitoring the 24-year-old Brazil international.
The whizzy winger, who was a flop with Manchester United despite the club splashing €95 million (US$99.5m) to reacquaint him with Erik ten Hag, has been rejuvenated since joining Real Betis.
Ten Hag got the best out of Antony at Ajax, but this sparkling form wasn’t replicated in the Premier League as he only scored once in league since April 2023.
Antony, who was United’s second most expensive player behind former Juventus icon Paul Pogba, bagged a dozen goals in 96 appearances for United.
After Ten Hag got the boot, Antony was soon offloaded by new head coach Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese tactician may now be regretting sending Antony on loan to Seville for the rest of the season as he has hit a rich vein of form.
Antony has bagged two goals in three La Liga games under Real Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini. He has become an instant hit with fans courtesy of darting runs, exciting dribbles, incredible pace and of course finding the back of the net.
With Juventus already considering a summer swap deal with United involving their Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee and Dusan Vlahovic. The Bianconeri are now also looking at Antony, who is versatile as he can play on the wing or spearhead the attack.
The reason that the club are tracking Antony is because Kolo Muani, on loan in Turin from Paris Saint-Germain, is a similar kind of player who made an instant impact.
French international Muani arrived last month and was brought in to be rotated with Vlahovic, the club’s top scorer this season. That hasn't happened, with Muani preferred to start over Vlahovic.
Muani exploded onto the Serie A scene, to become the only Juve player to score five goals in their first three league appearances. However, Juventus head coach Thiago Motta appears to have doubts over the long-term future of the 26-year-old, as he has struggled twice in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven.
Juve also have Turkish teenager Kenan Yildiz, who is being touted as the next best forward by super agent Jorge Mendes. European powerhouses have been invited to enter a bidding war of around €90m (US$94.2m) in the summer, which seems a remarkable amount for a player whose career has yet to take off.
It is viable for Motta to have Antony and Zirkzee in his ranks next term, with Vlahovic and Yildiz sent in the other direction to United. Yet any deal will depend on how the rest of the season pans out for Amorim at United and Motta with the Bianconeri.
Amorim remains under intense pressure to save his job at the end of the season, with United a club that are not afraid to wield the axe. That means that Juve duo Vlahovic and Yildiz would need to fit in with the plans of any potential new United manager.
One possible head coach to replace Amorim would be Massimiliano Allegri, who was responsible for securing the signatures of Vlahovic and Yildiz. He is on the shortlist to join AS Roma in the summer, so any Premier League clubs would need to act fast.
Motta, who arrived on a three-year deal from Bologna, was set a remit of earning Champions League soccer by finishing in the top four league places. Failure to do so could ultimately end in the Serie A giants giving the 42-year-old the boot at the end of the campaign.
Yet Motta has only lost one match, to league leaders Napoli. Their first half of the season when they became draw specialists seems to have evaporated.
Motta has recently masterminded an upward spiral in the club’s Serie A fortunes. This is in stark contrast to their patchy spell that resulted in boos from home fans inside the Allianz Stadium and supporters posting #MottaOut on social media channels after the tame Benfica defeat.
Yildiz renewed his contract in August, to extend his deal until 2029, and handed the no10 jersey. Yet he has yet to live up to the hype and may not feature in the plans of Project Motta, which is why Mendes recently met Yildiz’s parents to discuss the 19-year-old’s future.
There are suddenly big noises around Europe that Yildiz is going to be the next superstar, with Motta seemingly unconvinced. There are now rumours of cash and swap deals with United during the summer transfer window.
Antony would seemingly fit into Motta’s tactics more than Yildiz, especially with his strong short passing skills from the right flank. He should also feel at home as there would be few language barriers, especially as Juventus have a sprinkling of Brazilian and Portuguese players.
Now the club has another attacker on their summer wishlist, it is up to Motta to maintain the Serie A momentum as earning Champions League soccer is paramount to his future at Juventus as well as attracting top-quality players.
