With Michele Di Gregorio still on Manchester City’s radar and second-choice goalkeeper Mattia Perin having handed in a transfer request, the club needs to act fast.
Perin was pushed out by last summer’s arrival of Di Gregorio from Monza. He is under contract with Juventus until 2027, but wants to play matches rather than be an unused substitute with the Turin titans.
The 32-year-old is keen to explore potential opportunities within Serie A, with AC Milan, Bologna, Cagliari, Como and Fiorentina all viable destinations.
Potential swap deal
There could be a part-cash swap deal with Cagliari, with Elia Caprile moving to Turin and Perin off to Sardinia.
Caprile recently signed for Cagliari, following last season’s successful loan spell from Napoli, for €8.5 million (US$9.85m).
Yet they could rapidly cash in following Caprile’s impressive 18 Serie A games, which included outstanding displays against Bari, Empoli and Napoli that helped Cagliari survive relegation to Serie B.
Third-choice Juve keeper Carlo Pinsoglio, who extended his contract with Juventus until 2026 last September, could be elevated up the pecking order should Perin depart.
The 35-year-old, a big influence both at training and in the dressing room, has only played 247 minutes for the Bianconeri since the 2017/18 Serie A campaign.
Juventus Next Gen
While Juve contemplate bringing in a reserve keeper or promoting Pinsoglio with a Next Gen bagging added to the senior squad, there’s the matter of who will be between the sticks next term.
Di Gregorio turned down the opportunity to sign for Liverpool last summer, instead opting for Juventus. He enjoyed a superb season, which drew a plethora of admirers.
Manchester City showed interest during the winter transfer window, and he remains on their radar as there’s uncertainty surrounding their no1 Ederson.
Ederson wanted to move to the lucrative Saudi Pro League last summer, and is expected to push for a switch during the off season. City have Di Gregorio and France international keeper Lucas Chevalier lined up as potential replacements.
Italy international
Juve are aware of the interest from the Premier League giants, and have singled out Italy shotstopper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The former AC Milan star joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer from the Rossoneri in 2021.
As Donnarumma’s contract expires next June, the Ligue 1 champions may try to cash in this summer rather than offer him a new contract extension.
Yet the 26-year-old has indicated that he would prefer to stay in the French capital, following recent interest from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus.
