The Turkish talent came close to grabbing a hat-trick, but his first effort that found the back of the net was given as an own goal.
It was a flattering result for Juventus, who are guaranteed a last 16 berth after collecting a hefty 4-1 victory over the Casablanca club in Philadelphia on Sunday.
Juve head coach Igor Tudor said at the post-match press conference: “The boys did well, two good wins in a row. Tonight they will enjoy a free dinner, they have earned it.
“Yildiz has huge potential, he has rare qualities. He can make the difference up front with the dynamism of a midfielder. He's a special talent, but it’s his mentality that will take him far.”
Yildiz struck in each half, following an early own goal, with substitute Dusan Vlahovic earning and scoring a late penalty to complete the rout.
Juventus are making an impact
The Bianconeri’s dream Club World Cup debut continued, following up their emphatic 5-0 triumph over UAE heavyweights Al-Ain FC with another convincing result.
Juventus were predicted by a supercomputer before the cash-rich competition kicked off to be in with a shot of winning the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
That forecast seems to be on the mark from the evidence of Juve’s first two Group G games.
Wydad AC, who desperately needed at least a draw to avoid tumbling out of the tournament, forced the opening save after just four minutes. Keeper Michele Di Gregorio did well to deny Thembinkosi Lorch’s shot from slipping into the bottom left corner
Juventus broke the deadlock from their counterattack for a sixth-minute lead.
Neat passes prised open Wydad AC
An eye-catching one-two movement involving Khephren Thuram and Yildiz sneaked past keeper El-Mehdi Benabid at the near post, courtesy of a deflection from Abdelmounaim Boutouil who was credited with an own goal.
Close-range misses from Kolo Muani and Alberto Costa almost proved costly after Lorch picked out Samuel Obeng, but his header was saved in the bottom right corner by Di Gregorio.
The Bianconeri pressed forward following this scare. Benabid stood no chance between the sticks when 20-year-old Yildiz thundered Andrea Cambiaso’s pass into the top corner from the edge of the area.
Having doubled their lead on the 16-minute mark failed to bring a rare smile from Tudor in the dugout.
Wydad AC fought back, with Guilherme Ferreira’s header saved before lively Lorch reduced the deficit after 25 minutes. A perfectly weighted through ball picked out the 31-year-old, who calmly and cleverly lifted the ball over the advancing shotstopper.
Moroccan fans got to celebrate
Wydad AC supporters went wild with excitement inside the Lincoln Financial Field, with the goal ending a three-match run without scoring.
Lorch continued to carve out opportunities for team-mates. His corner found towering center-back Ferreira, who headed over the gaping goalmouth. Bart Meijers should also have done better with his header, which he skied.
Costa’s ambitious attempt from outside the area was steered wide, which closed an intriguing opening half and left the result in the balance.
Tactical half-time switches
Interval changes were made, Tudor brought on Teun Koopmeiners for the ineffective US international Weston McKennie. Wydad AC head coach Amine Benhachem replaced defender Meijers with striker Selemani Mwalimu and switched center forwards with Omar Al-Somah on for Obeng.
Juve took advantage of less defenders, but Cambiaso was denied by the left post and Muani missed the target by a few inches before Yildiz netted again.
After Lorch and Boutouil squandered chances to level matters, a swift break saw Muani find Yildiz who slid the ball into the bottom right to restore a two-goal cushion on 69 minutes.
With the points as good as in the bag, Tudor made a triple substitution with just over quarter-of-an-hour on the clock. Nicolas Gonzalez replaced Costa in defence, Manuel Locatelli came on for ill-tempered Francisco Conceicao, and Vlahovic was swapped for Muani.
Di Gregorio to the rescue
Between poor finishing from Wydad AC’s Mohamed Moufid and Cassius Mailula, Yildiz was pulled off to save his legs and center-back Federico Gatti introduced as a safety measure.
A pair of stoppage time saves from Di Gregorio, equal to efforts from Mwalimu and Moufid.
Yet it was at the other end where the final goal arrived. Vlahovic earned a soft-looking spot-kick after Ferreira made contact. The Serbia international picked his spot, out of reach of diving keeper Benabid.
Group G table-topping Juventus have faced opponents they were expected to beat, yet have netted extremely impressive results. Their first real test in the tournament is when they tackle defending champions Manchester City on 26 June.
