The Argentina-born Italian international has attracted attention from leading clubs in England, France and Italy courtesy of his prolific scoring exploits this term.
Retegui’s 20 Serie A goals from 18 starts, and four appearances from the bench, has helped propel Atalanta into the top three behind table-topping Napoli and defending champions Inter Milan.
Napoli head coach Antonio Conte is among those tracking the 25-year-old. While the Bianconeri have joined the list of admirers, due to uncertainty surrounding the future of both loanee Kolo Muani and Dusan Vlahovic.
France forward Muani has been a revelation since he joined from Paris Saint-Germain last month, notching five goals in his three Serie A matches.
If he can continue his scoring prowess during his six-month stint in Italy, then he will surely return to the Ligue 1 champions as the polished article. That means he won’t be available to buy for Juve head coach Thiago Motta as the French outfit will keep their prized asset.
PSG are also keeping an eye on Retegui, who signed for Atalanta from Genoa for €28 million (US$29.4m) last August.
The Ligue 1 leaders are looking at potential replacements should they decide to let Muani leave on a permanent basis in the summer. Hot-shot Retegui seems to fit the bill, with PSG alerted by his impressive form.
He became the first-ever Atalanta player to score a first-half Serie A hat-trick, after the highfliers stormed past Verona 5-0 this month.
In stark contrast Serbia striker Vlahovic seems destined to become a benchwarmer, unless there’s suddenly an injury crisis for Juve’s frontline. The high earner has fallen down the pecking order, with Muani preferred to spearhead the starting line-up by head coach Motta.
Turkish teenager Kenan Yildiz and Belgian Samuel Mbangula are also getting the nod from Motta over 25-year-old Vlahovic, who is only likely to ply his trade in England if his €80m (US$84m) transfer fee is lowered.
Vlahovic, whose contract expires in summer 2026, is continuing to be monitored by Arsenal and Manchester United. Yet these Premier League teams are now showing a genuine interest in free-scoring Retegui.
Juve will want to offload Vlahovic before he is available as a freebie, and have slapped exactly the same price tag on Yildiz. Although the 19-year-old has yet to live up to his hype, his parents were recently spotted in a restaurant with super agent Jorge Mendes.
One of the Bianconeri’s prized assets is Mbangula, who was the subject of a failed bid from West Ham United. Juve turned down a €9.6 million (US$10.1m) offer during the January transfer window.
Despite not quite being the finished article, Mbangula’s monetary value in the summer could result in the Bianconeri cashing in on their Juventus Next Gen product.
The prolific Retegui is one of a handful of in-form strikers that Juventus are keeping tabs on should they need a new forward in the summer.
Being so fearless in Serie A, and a much more affordable proposition than Liverpool's Darwin Nunez, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee, makes sense for Juve to pursue Retegui.
Yet trying to secure the signature of Retegui depends on the summer saga of whether the trio of Mbangula, Muani and Vlahovic will be sporting a Juve jersey next season.
If there are protracted talks between Juventus and Atalanta, the Turin titans’ plans could be scuppered with an ever-growing list of admirers for Retegui.
