What's at stake

Following a five-goal Champions League triumph at Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, tactician Spalletti will want to scoop another win. Cagliari, struggling in Serie A and winless in their past eight games, should be swept aside by the Turin titans.

The Bianconeri need maximum points to keep up with Scudetto rivals, and currently lie four points behind fifth-placed. Defeat by the Sardinia club seems unthinkable, but could see Juventus slip to mid-table.

Cagliari parted ways with manager Davide Nicole, who led them to Serie A safety, at the end of last season and replaced him with Fabio Pisacane.

Recent form

Turkish talent Kenan Yildiz proved to be the thorn in Bodo/Glimt's side after he appeared at the start of the second half. The 20-year-old stole the show, twisting and turning at the defense. If Juventus can continue to score regularly, no doubt it will be helped by Yildiz's magic.

Spalletti experienced a rocky start at Juve, but has yet to lose a game. His side dominatedSporting Lisbon but lacked ruthlessness. Wayward finishing resutled in being held to a bore draw in their Derby della Mole against Torino.

Jonathan David, American ace Weston McKennie and Lois Openda all scored in Norway, which should have boosted their confidence as well as lifted the gloom hanging over Juventus.

Juve sit seventh in Serie A, with just 20 points from a dozen games being their third-worst campaign this century. Just 15 goals at this stage of the season is the worst scoring record since 1999.

Cagliari lie three points above the drop zone, with only five points netted on their travels.
Gennaro Borrelli scored a pair of headers in their home 3-3 draw against Genoa.

Head-to-head

Juventus have tackled Cagliari 52 times, with 34 victories, 13 draws and five defeats. Juve chalked up two wins last season and a stalemate.

They finished 1-1 in their Serie A clash at the Allianz Stadium in October 2024. The Bianconeri blasted past Cagliari 4-0 in the Coppa Italia two months later. With a slender 1-0 league away win for Juventus in February.

Team news

Goalkeeper Carlo Pinsoglio (calf), defensive duro Gleison Bremer (knee) and Daniele Rugani (muscle) plus striker Arkadiusz Milik (shin) are sidelined because of injury.

Emerging superstar Yildiz should be a certain starter. Spalletti faces a dilemma about his tactics and rotation after summer signings David and Openda grabbed overdue goals. Dusan Vlahovic is their most reliable goalscorer, so should be given the nod. The three forwards are on the wanted list of German and Spanish sides.

Cagliari followed up their impressive 0-0 result to frustrate high-flying Como by being involved in a 3-3 ding dong battle with lowly Genoa. So a tactical tweak is anticipated.

Borrelli should be favored to lead the attack following his brace against Genoa. While at the other end of the pitch center-back Yerry Mina (muscle) is a doubt, with Adam Obert the most likely replacement

The Rossoblu's treatment room comprises defender Ze Pedro (knee), midfielder Luca Mazzitelli (muscle) and forward Andrea Belotti (knee).

Expected line-ups

Juventus possible starting XI:

Di Gregorio - Kalulu, Kelly, Koopmeiners - Cambiaso, Kostic, McKennie, Locatelli - Yildiz, Conceicao -Vlahovic

Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Kelly, Koopmeiners; Cambiaso, Locatelli, Thuram, Kostic; McKennie, Yildiz; Vlahovic

Cagliari possible starting XI:

Caprile - Zappa, Luperto, Obert - Palestra, Deiola, Prati, Folorunsho, Felici - Esposito, Borrelli

Old Juve prediction

Juventus 3 Cagliari 1

There is no such thing as an easy Serie A game, although Juve are heavy favorites on their home turf against opponents who have been gradually sliding down the table.

Juventus can potentially drum up a big wing that will propel them up the table. Spalletti has had his time to find a formation and understand how to get the best out of his squad. Now is the moment for his tactics to explode on the pitch against lowly opposition.

With Yildiz looking better than ever, plus David and Openda suddenly finding their scoring boots, a high scoring game could be on the cards to kickstart Spalletti's Juve career.
