Mattia Perin will be out of action for eight weeks following yesterday’s right hand operation, according to a medical update on the official Juventus website.
The 32-year-old back-up ‘keeper will be absent from the prestigious 2025 FIFA Club World Cup finals in June and July, which will be hosted in the United States.
Playing second fiddle
Michele Di Gregorio pushed out Perin at the Turin titans last term. He proved a massive success between the sticks, since joining on loan with an obligation to buy from Monza.
Lack of playing time for ex-Genoa shotstopper Perin, who only featured in nine competitive games last season, means that he could still be coaxed by a new challenge.
Perin, who last season extended his Juve contract until June 2027, was being tracked for a potential summer switch by AS Roma, Como and Fiorentina. Perin boasts an impressive Juventus record of 25 clean sheets from 56 appearances.
Perin on AS Roma radar
He remains Roma’s top target should their ‘keeper Mile Svilar leave. Serbia international Svilar has yet to renew his Roma contract, as the 25-year-old is demanding an annual salary of €4 million (US$4.5m).
Roma could decide to sell Svilar because they missed out on qualifying for the Champions League, pipped at the post by Juventus, but they will compete in next season’s Europa League.
Veteran Pinsoglio, who has patiently waited for a chance to be elevated up the pecking order at Juventus, could get his opportunity to impress at the Club World Cup finals. He has only played 247 minutes for Juve since the 2017/18 campaign.
The 35-year-old, a big influence both at training and in the dressing room, last September extended his Juve contract until the end of the 2025/2026 season.
