What’s at stake

The two teams are seeking maximum points from this clash at different ends of the table. Juventus are aiming to extend their unbeaten run this term to become serious Scudetto contenders. Hellas Verona desperately need to pick up a win soon, because they lie close to the relegation zone.

Hosts Verona are struggling to find the back of the net, scoring only once in their three Serie A outings this term, with TSG Hoffenheim loanee Gift Orban eager to break his duck.

Juve have possessed a fragile backline ever since Igor Tudor was installed as interim manager in March, and since he was elevated to the permanent role he has seen bucketloads of goals conceded.

Despite their defensive vulnerability they are serving up pure entertainment, thanks to end-to-end action as well as supersub Dusan Vlahovic netting four goals after arriving off the bench.

Goal poacher Jonathan David and unorthodox striker Lois Openda will rival Vlahovic for a starting berth, with Tudor aiming to shore up a defense that has conceded a staggering seven goals in their past two games.

Recent form

Juventus extended their unbeaten run to eight games with remarkable fightbacks from their past two contests. This is an astonishing record considering how lame they were in suffering back-to-back defeats in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

A hat-trick of wins in Serie A and a breathtaking Champions League point against Borussia Dortmund has followed on from a notable pre-season friendly triumph at Borussia Dortmund and a hard-fought Bortolotti Trophy success over Atalanta.

Confidence among fans and pundits took a turn after last-gasp rescue missions by Juve in their Derby d’Italia victory over Inter Milan and the Champions League 4-4 stalemate.

Tudor’s tactical approach will surely be tweaked soon to tighten the defence and unleash two of his three top-notch forwards in a double-pronged attack.

Verona boss Pablo Zanetti strengthened his side over the summer, but scoring has eluded them in two of their three Serie A games.

They kicked off the season with a creditable 1-1 home draw against Udinese, were hammered 4-0 inside the Stadio Olimpico by Lazio but then kept their first clean sheet in 10 games by holding newly-promoted Cremonese.

Zanetti's side have only registered a single win from their past 13 home matches, and last season’s record against the top four teams resulted in seven defeats from eight contests.

Head-to-head

Verona have lost six of their past seven Serie A clashes with Juventus, with Tijjani Noslin providing the only goal in February 2024. None of the Verona squad members have ever scored against Juventus in Serie A.

Juve’s past eight league visits to Verona have produced mixed results. Last term’s thumping 3-0 triumph was just their third success, having tasted a trio of defeats with two draws.

They have played each other 69 times in Serie A, Juventus winning on 39 occasions, Verona bagging a dozen victories and 17 games ending all square.

Igor Tudor’s quotes

"The last two games are already behind us, our focus is only on the game in Verona. It’s true that we’ve played two intense games against Inter and Borussia Dortmund, and for the first time we’ll be playing three matches in eight days, but we're all focused solely on the next one.

"We cannot make excuses, and we won’t. It’s clear that mental clarity will be essential against Verona. Tomorrow’s match will be won with our heads. We can win if we play at our best. If we don’t take the field 100% focused, we’ll struggle there.

“I always tell them, they’re all starters to me, because even those who come off the bench during the game can play an important role.

“With five substitutions available, matches are often decided late on, and we showed that against Inter and Borussia Dortmund. [Francisco] Conceicao and [Edon] Zhegrova won’t be able to play for the full 90 minutes, but they can be very useful."

Team news

As Tudor’s pre-match statements do not always ring true, it is anyone’s guess what the formation and starting line-up will be.

Vlahovic could be man-marked out of the match if he starts, and has been more effective this season when appearing as a second-half substitute.

Andrea Cambiaso is back in contention following his two-match suspension, while Francisco Conceicao has resumed training following his recent muscle injury with only Fabio Miretti (thigh) injured.

Orban also made his first start for Verona against Cremonese, and will battle it out with Amine Sarr to partner Giovane Santana in attack.

Verona have a plethora of players on the treatment table. Fallou Cham (physical discomfort), Abdou Harroui (muscle), Roberto Gagliardini (shoulder), Tomas Suslov (knee) and Nicolas Valentini (hamstring) are all sidelined.

Expected line-ups

Juventus possible starting XI:

Di Gregorio - Gatti, Bremer, Kelly - Kalulu, Thuram, Locatelli, Cambiaso - Openda, Yildiz - Vlahovic

Hellas Verona possible starting XI:

Montipo - Nunez - Nelsson, Frese - Belghali, Akpro, Serdar, Bernede, Bradaric - Giovane, Sarr

Old Juve prediction

Hellas Verona 1 Juventus 2

Tudor will be hoping that history repeats itself, as the last time Juventus won their opening three Serie A games they went on to win a total of eight league contests on the bounce.

Verona will fancy their chances, as they showed enough to have potentially victory over both Udinese and Cremonese. Their battling spirits are not dissimilar to Juve's recently displayed never-say-die attitude that has seen stoppage goals.
