Nicolas Gonzalez, who only joined the Turin titans last summer from Fiorentina on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy, is a serious target for Leeds United boss Daniel Farke.

He was previously wanted by Leeds in 2020, when Marcelo Bielsa was manager, and scoring for fun in the German Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart.

Now the ambitious club are examining making a move for out of favor Gonzalez, who can be utilized on either flank or as a makeshift center-forward.

Highly regarded by former Juventus head coach Thiago Motta, once the ex-Bologna boss was replaced by Igor Tudor the 27-year-old tumbled down the pecking order and only played a bit-part at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Yet the Bianconeri still forked out €28.1 million (US$32.9m) on 1 July, despite not being part of Tudor’s plans to tackle the Italian top tier and Champions League.

Saudi Arabia does not attract Gonzalez

Gonzalez has admirers in the Saudi Pro League, but prefers a European side where he can get minutes under his belt in order to be selected by Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni to tackle the 2026 World Cup finals.

Juventus are open to letting Gonzalez leave this summer as long an offer equals the figure paid last month, which would help fund a potential move for Manchester United misfit Jadon Sancho.

Although the Bianconeri still hanker after adding left winger Sancho, a combination of his high salary demands and the club’s financial plight resulted in his switch to Turin being put on hold.

Sancho turns down Turkish giants

Sancho’s agent recently rejected the opportunity for the 25-year-old to be reunited with former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Besiktas, and has landed in Italy to try and broker a Serie A deal.

Four top Italian teams are showing serious interest in Sancho, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea but returned to United for their whirlwind US tour. While Napoli no longer seems a viable option because of the cost, Juventus have to battle it out with AC Milan and Inter Milan over the 25-year-old England ace.

Gonzalez, aware that a starting berth would be jeopardized should Juve land Sancho, has requested a transfer from the Turin titans rather than constantly be subjected to warming the bench.
