Crystal Palace and Ajax standouts on Juventus' radar to replace injured Gleison Bremer, report says
By Eduardo Razo
Juventus defender Gleison Bremer will undergo surgery after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament during the UEFA Champions League match against RB Leipzig, the club announced on Thursday.
The 27-year-old Brazilian was substituted just six minutes into Juve's 3-2 victory over Leipzig on Wednesday, with Federico Gatti stepping in to replace him.
Sky Sport reporter Francesco Cosatti commented on Bremer's injury, highlighting that Juventus are lacking depth in their center-back position and overall defense now that the Brazilian is ruled out for the rest of the 2024-25 season.
"Bremer will be out for at least six months, and it essentially rules him out for the season," Cosatti said. "It's going to be a long layoff for the Brazilian. Juventus is now down to three center-backs: Gatti, Kalulu, and Danilo when necessary.
"Overall, they have seven defenders, including Rouhi, Savona, Cambiaso, and Cabal, but it's definitely a bit thin in terms of depth at the back."
Juventus have two targets to replace Gleison Bremer
Tuttosport reports (h/t Juventus News 24) that Juventus are looking for a new defender to replace Bremer, who has effectively ended his season due to a knee injury. Among the candidates being considered are Maxence Lacroix, who joined Crystal Palace from Wolfsburg this summer, and Jorrel Hato from Ajax, a player that club chief Cristiano Giuntoli has been monitoring for a while.
Additionally, the report suggests Juventus may seek an early return for Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo. The center-back has already made a few appearances with the first team and could serve as an ideal emergency solution.
If the Serie A side decides to take this route, then Thiago Motta and his team will have to hold down the fort for the next couple of months.
