Juventus defender Gleison Bremer is set to undergo surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during their UEFA Champions League match against RB Leipzig, the club announced on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Brazilian was substituted six minutes into Juve's 3-2 victory over Leipzig on Wednesday, with Federico Gatti replacing him.

"Gleison Bremer and Nico Gonzalez underwent diagnostic tests ... which revealed an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the left knee for the former and a low-grade injury to the rectus femoris of the right thigh for the latter," the club said in a statement. "Bremer will undergo surgery in the coming days."

Bremer, who joined Juventus in 2022, has been a crucial part of their defense, playing every minute of this Serie A season so far. His presence has helped the team keep clean sheets in all six matches.

Juventus are thin on their defense after Gleison Bremer's injury

Sky Sport reporter Francesco Cosatti discussed Bremer's injury and noted that Juventus are thin at the center-back position and on the backline following the news that the Brazilian is done for the 2024-25 season.

"Bremer will be out for at least six months, and it essentially rules him out for the season," Cosatti said (h/t Tutto Juve). "It's going to be a long layoff for the Brazilian. Juventus is now down to three center-backs: Gatti, Kalulu, and Danilo when necessary. Overall, they have seven defenders, including Rouhi, Savona, Cambiaso, and Cabal, but it's definitely a bit thin in terms of depth at the back."

It will be interesting to see what Juventus could do, either head into the free-agent market or stand still until the January transfer window.
