Former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot remains a free agent after his contract with the Serie A expired in June. However, someone close to the player stated that a departure was always the plan.

Throughout the summer, the 29-year-old has been linked to multiple Premier League clubs. Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle United have all been rumored to be interested in Rabiot, but nothing has materialized.

Juventus and Adrien Rabiot reuniting is unlikely

With the 2024-25 season already underway, some might ask why Rabiot didn't circle back to Juventus and see if any bridges could be repaired so the Frenchman could remain in Turin. Still, that was never part of the plan.

"There is no need to close the door; returning to Juventus was not an option taken into consideration," Rabiot's mother, Veronique, told L'Equipe (h/t TuttoJuve). "When we make decisions, we take responsibility for them"

Nonetheless, reports suggest that a move to Old Trafford as Football Insider reported this weekend that United would not be one of the clubs pursuing a move for his signature despite showing an initial interest in exploring the deal.

Meanwhile, Rabiot has reportedly decided that he’s not overly keen on moving to Newcastle United, considering the player wants to play European football and that's not something the Magpies can offer.

It will be interesting to see where Rabiot signs, but the longer his decision takes the more it feels like this season could be a wash for the player since he'll be asked to jump on a moving train with no preseason to build chemistry with his new teammates.
