Report: Arsenal surge ahead of Juventus in race for Newcastle, Tottenham target

LOSC Lille star Jonathan David might become a free agent next summer if the Ligue 1 club doesn’t offer him a contract extension. This potential situation has caught the attention of teams like Juventus, who are reportedly interested in him.
A recent report indicates that David is on the radar of several clubs, with Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli seeing him as a potential alternative to Dušan Vlahović.
This past summer, the Canadian was linked with several clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, and West Ham United. However, none of the Premier League teams made an offer for him.
Is Arsenal taking the lead in the Jonathan David race?
The latest information on David comes from TuttoJuve, who report that the Gunners are now leading the race to convince the player to head to London and join their project.
Moreover, the Italian media outlet reveals that Arsenal’s strong relationship with Lille makes a January move more likely, with David’s starting salary expected to be at least €5 million.
Along with Arsenal and Juventus, Tottenham and Newcastle United are also keen on the player, per TuttoJuve. David recently commented on his future, noting that he's currently in talks with Les Dogues over a contract extension.
“Right now, we’re speaking with [LOSC president] Olivier Letang about a possible extension,” David said.
“I’m open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world. And for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”
Since joining Lille in 2020, David has scored 87 goals in 190 appearances across all competitions. If the Canadian goal scorer does reach free agency, there should be a line of suitors seeking to land him.
