Costa, Lloyd Kelly, Kolo Muani and Renato Veiga have all recently arrived at the Serie A giants. However, the entire quartet couldn’t be included in Juventus’ latest Champions League squad.

With UEFA rules only permitting clubs a maximum of three alterations to their squad, the Bianconeri were left with the dilemma of dropping one of their four new signings from Europe’s premier competition.

Under pressure head coach Thiago Motta had no difficulty in generating space to accommodate his newcomers. Arthur, Danilo and Nicolo Fagioli all recently left the Turin giants, which left a straightforward gap of three berths to replenish.

Costa joined Juve from Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes on 15 January. The 21-year-old right-back cost Juve €12.5 million (US$12.9m), and will be available for Serie A and Coppa Italia matches.

Motta opted to register his three loanees onto the latest Champions League A-list squad.

Defender Kelly, on loan with an obligation to buy from Newcastle United, has yet to play for Juve but could make his debut at Coma on Friday evening. The 26-year-old turned down the opportunity to move to Liverpool and instead sign for the Bianconeri.

Striker Muani is making waves since he joined on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. The French international has already scored three Serie A goals from two appearances, and helped to bring Juve back to life following their recent poor spell.

Much-travelled Chelsea loanee Renato Veiga prefers to operate as a central defender, but can be utilised at full-back or as a defensive midfielder.

He is expected to get plenty of playing time at center-back as Pierre Kalulu’s muscle injury means he’s sidelined for around another month, and Gleison Bremer is unlikely to feature this season following his UCL injury in October. However, Bremer remains in the Juventus’ Champions League squad.

Juve will tackle Dutch Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven in the next phase of their Champions League campaign, which is a two-legged play-off this month.

While Samuel Mbangula, Nicolo Savona and Kenan Yildiz are the big names registered in Juve’s B-list squad, as they are all a product of the youth academy.
