Juve head coach Igor Tudor’s first-ever signing, goal poacher Jonathan David, has yet to score since last month’s arrival as a free agent.
The Canada striker failed to find the back of the net against Serie B minnows AC Reggiana last weekend, and again when starting in Germany.
There remains uncertainty about wantaway center forward Dusan Vlahovic, who prefers a potential Premier League switch over joining ex-Juventus manager Max Allegri at AC Milan or moving to Villarreal.
Yet the Serbia hot-shot, who has finished as Juve’s top scorer every season since he joined in January 2022, looked more productive and sharper than David in both pre-season friendly appearances.
The 25-year-old scored during the 2-2 stalemate against Reggiana, and came close to netting during added time at Dortmund.
The Bianconeri are still pursuing the return of last season’s loanee Kolo Muani, and set a deadline of 13 August for his parent club Paris Saint-Germain to reach an agreement.
Premier League sides monitor Muani
PSG have a plethora of Premier League teams interested in a straight purchase for the French international, while cash-strapped Juventus are only willing to take Muani on an initial loan with an option to buy.
With Juve in need of more firepower to make an impact in the Champions League and Serie A with their current squad, they could make a bid for Muani if they can raise funds from transfer sales.
Six players that are not part of Tudor’s plans could bring in much-needed money to finance the Bianconeri strengthening this summer.
As well as a potential exit of Vlahovic and Fabio Miretti edging closer to joining Napoli, Juventus have Premier League clubs monitoring Nicolas Gonzalez, Lloyd Kelly, Douglas Luiz and Nicolo Savona.
Juventus keen to offload Kelly
Defender Kelly, who arrived during the winter transfer window and became a permanent signing, has an asking price of €20 million (US$23.4m) with newly-promoted Premier League club Sunderland showing serious interest.
If Kelly can be offloaded before the 13 August deadline Juve have set for Muani, the transfer fee would help finance a move to bring back the loanee on a season-long loan from PSG for €10m (US$11.7m).
The remaining monies would be enough to land a cut-price signing to help Tudor tweak the squad he inherited, or be used towards bringing in a new center-back.
