Juventus striker targets sit out Premier League openers

With a proposed five-year deal for Kolo Muani yet to get over the line, and Spanish sides keen on Dusan Vlahovic, a pair of Juve forwards remain available to move to the Turin titans.

Muani, last year’s loanee from Paris Saint-Germain, is wanted to join the Bianconeri on a season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy. PSG have yet to agree to the deal.

Vlahovic, who bagged three goals in four pre-season matches including yesterday’s win against Atalanta, had been looking for an escape route all summer.

A trio of La Liga clubs are showing serious interest, but head coach Igor Tudor may not wish to relinquish the Serbia striker to either Atletico Madrid, Barcelona or Villarreal.

There are a couple of Premier League forwards that are on Juve’s radar, with neither being named in their respective squad for the opening weekend of the English top flight.

Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United’s top scorer with 10 goals last term, was overlooked for today’s visit of Arsenal. While Chelsea hot-shot Nicolas Jackson was forced to miss today’s game at home to FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.

United manager coach Ruben Amorim, who has strengthened his forward line this summer, omitted the 22-year-old Denmark international.

Ex-Atalanta ace Hojlund, left to warm the bench for United’s final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina last weekend, has been in talks with former Juventus boss Max Allegri about a switch to AC Milan.

The delay in Milan’s interest is because the Serie A side have proposed a swap deal for France international shotstopper Mike Maignan, who is in the final year of his contract.

Inter Milan submitted a proposal for a double deal involving Hojlund and fellow forward Joshua Zirkzee, but this was rejected by United. New Inter head coach has pushed for a two-year loan with an option to buy.

The Bianconeri, like Inter, can offer Hojlund Champions League soccer. Cash-strapped Juventus would also prefer a loan with an option to purchase at the end of the season, which would cost €6m (US$6.9m) and a salary of €3.8 (US$4.4m).

Yet United are holding out for a permanent move, which has stalled negotiations over a potential move. They slapped a €50m (US$58m) price tag on Hojlund last month, which put off Napoli, but have since reduced their valuation and are open to offers.

Jackson is a wanted man at Juventus should an agreement for Hojlund fail to materialize. The Senegal international was serving his third match ban following his red card towards the end of last term, when Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

He has slipped out of favor at the recently-crowned FIFA Club World Cup champions, who have bolstered their frontline this summer, with Juve among his admirers.

The Senegal international, who netted 10 goals in 30 Premier League matches last term, has dramatically fallen down the pecking order as Chelsea recently signed strikers Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Although Jackson is on the wanted list at Juve and Napoli, his asking price of €60 million (US$69.9m) has deterred the pair of Serie A giants unless a loan deal can be brokered. Yet Aston Villa and Newcastle could splash the cash.

Aston Villa looked lightweight during Saturday’s scoreless draw against Newcastle. Villa head coach Unai Emery is familiar to Jackson, having handed him his La Liga debut at Villarreal in 2021.

As Newcastle’s lethal marksman Alexander Isak is rumored to be joining Liverpool, the club are expected to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford as well as crank up landing Jackson.

Juve are playing a waiting game about Muani and Vlahovic, which could prove their downfall by allowing both Hojlund and Jackson to switch to other clubs.
