Earlier this year, Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba faced a four-year ban for a doping offense, casting doubt on his future in football. However, recent developments indicate he might return to action sooner than anticipated.

His suspension has been reduced to 18 months, paving the way for Pogba to make his comeback in 2025. Eventually, Pogba and Juventus decided to part ways as the Frenchman will continue his career elsewhere once his suspension ends.

Recently, rumors suggest that Manchester City have approached the 31-year-old about a possible move to the Etihad Stadium. However, the latest report reveals where the reigning Premier League champions stand in their pursuit of the veteran midfielder.

Where does Manchester City stand on pursuing Paul Pogba?

Football Insider reported on Wednesday, citing sources, that Man City are unlikely to consider a move for the free agent in the new year. The report claims that the Sky Blues will target a new midfielder in the new year and have already identified several defensive options.

Pep Guardiola already has plenty of options in Pogba’s position, with players like Mateo Kovačić, Matheus Nunes, and İlkay Gündoğan at his disposal.

On top of that, the World Cup winner won’t be eligible to play until March, which might leave too little time for him to regain full match sharpness. It will be interesting to see if any European side does take a gamble on the player.

Sky Sports reported last month that clubs from England, Europe, Saudi Arabia, and MLS are reportedly interested in signing the 31-year-old. The English outlet notes that Pogba and his representatives are expected to hold formal talks with the interested clubs.
