This week, Erik ten Hag was dismissed as Manchester United’s manager after the team’s 2-1 loss to West Ham United on Sunday in the Premier League.
ESPN reported, citing sources, that Manchester United’s management has decided to part ways with Ten Hag due to their declining confidence in his ability to turn the team’s fortunes around after a disappointing start to the season.
With only 11 points from nine league matches, there are increasing concerns that United may be too far behind to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
During their internal research to find a new manager, a former Juventus gaffer’s name emerged: Massimiliano Allegri. However, new information reveals why the Premier League side didn’t pursue the Italian manager.
Manchester United discarded Massimiliano Allegri
The Athletic reports (h/t TuttoJuve) that Manchester United considered Allegri in recent weeks. However, the former Juventus coach was quickly ruled out as a candidate because he was seen as less likely to commit to a long-term project compared to Ruben Amorim, who ultimately got the job.
Since leaving Juventus, Allegri has been without a team, and Italian clubs like Roma and Milan have shown interest, but none have decided to hire him yet.
Sky Sports reports that Sporting Lisbon believe Ruben Amorim’s move to Manchester United is a done deal. The English outlet also reveals that Sporting are asking the Red Devils to pay £4.15 million for Amorim’s immediate departure, which also includes compensation for the three coaches he wants to bring with him.
Their information concludes by noting that an official agreement on terms and a date for Amorim to leave Sporting for Manchester United is getting closer.
