Juventus might aim to strengthen their No. 9 position next summer, with LOSC Lille’s Jonathan David on their radar. However, the Old Lady will face competition for the forward, who is set to become a free agent.

According to Football Italia transfer expert Matteo Moretto, the 24-year-old has decided not to renew his contract with Lille, which is set to expire. In his latest Daily Briefing column for Caught Offside, Moretto mentioned that Inter Milan have made significant progress in recent weeks, but they face tough competition.

Since joining Lille in 2020, David has netted 87 goals in 190 appearances across all competitions. Rumors from last month suggest that Arsenal, Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are among the teams vying for the player.

Juventus receive a boost from Newcastle United

Barcelona and Newcastle are said to be monitoring the Canadian striker, but more Premier League clubs are likely to enter the competition in the coming weeks. Nonetheless, the Magpies could be pondering exiting the race for the Canadian.

The Shields Gazette reports that Newcastle’s attempts to sign the Lille striker on a free transfer were dealt a blow after Barcelona entered the race.

Last month, David commented on his future, noting that he's currently in talks with Les Dogues over a contract extension.

“Right now, we’re speaking with Olivier Letang about a possible extension,” David said.

“I’m open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world.  And for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”
