LOSC Lille star Jonathan David might become a free agent next summer if the Ligue 1 club doesn’t offer him a contract extension. This potential situation has caught the attention of teams like Juventus, but there's another Serie A club keen on the player.
This week, TuttoJuve reported that Arsenal are currently ahead in the race to persuade the player to move to London and join their project.
Moreover, the Italian outlet mentions that Arsenal's strong ties with Lille make a January transfer more likely, with David’s starting salary expected to be at least €5 million.
In addition to Arsenal and Juventus, Tottenham and Newcastle United are also interested in the player.
Juventus face competition from Serie A
According to Sportmediaset (h/t JuventusNews24), Juventus will have to watch out for Inter Milan in the race for David. The reigning Serie A champions are no strangers to securing a forward as a free agent. In 2023, they signed Marcus Thuram when he left Borussia Mönchengladbach.
David recently commented on his future, noting that he's currently in talks with Les Dogues over a contract extension.
“Right now, we’re speaking with Olivier Letang about a possible extension,” David said.
“I’m open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world. And for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”
Since joining Lille in 2020, David has netted 87 goals in 190 appearances across all competitions. If the Canadian striker becomes a free agent, he’ll likely attract plenty of interest from potential suitors.
