Tino Anjorin (midfielder/left winger)

The English-born ace, who only joined Empoli last summer, was linked with German club RB Leipzig as well as Serie A sides Atalanta, Juventus and Torino.

Juve had lined him up to take over from outgoing Nicolo Fagioli, who joined Fiorentina in a last-gasp deal, as he is an attacking and versatile player. No deal was struck, so 23-year-old Anjorin remains at strugglers Empoli although could be a summer acquisition for the Bianconeri.

Nicolo Bertola (central defender)

The 21-year-old was a late target for both Atalanta and Juventus, but the U21 Italian international stayed put in Serie B. He could be plying his trade in the top flight next term, either with current club highflyers Spezia or one of his Serie A admirers.

Both Atalanta and Juventus were not put off the €1.5 million (US$1.55m) price tag, while the Bianconeri would have happily loaned Bertola back for Spezia’s promotion push. A future star, and maybe a potential Juve ace.

Carney Chukwuemeka (midfielder/left winger)

The creative midfielder was the back-up plan for Juventus should summer signing Douglas Luiz join Manchester City or Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League (EPL).

Chukwuemeka, who turned down Barcelona to join Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022, had limited time under head coach Enzo Maresca despite his €47.8m (US$50m) price tag. Everton, Juventus and West Ham United were in the mix for a loan spell, but the 21-year-old has opted for German side Borussia Dortmund.

Kevin Danso (center-back)

The Austrian ace was set to join the Turin giants on loan, only to fail his medical and then turn his attention to the rigours of the EPL.

An agreement was in place for the 26-year-old to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Tottenham Hotspur swooped to scupper the deal. Spurs landed Danso on loan, with an obligation to buy in a five-year deal worth €25m ($25.9m).

Axel Disasi (center-back)

The French international at one stage seemed highly likely to follow his Chelsea team-mate Renato Veiga to Juventus.

Then there became a three-way chase for the 26-year-old, with Aston Villa and Tottenham joining the Bianconeri. Remaining in the Premier League was more of an attractive proposition for Disasi, who picked Villa over Chelsea’s North London rivals for his loan spell.

Patrick Dorgu (full-back)

The versatile Danish international was expected to switch Serie A clubs with a move from Lecce to either Juventus or Napoli. Being able to operate at full-back, left-back or wing-back would have made the 20-year-old an asset under Motta’s tactical set-ups.

Manchester United were first to come calling, but Dorgu had second thoughts when Italian teams showed interest. Yet it was the EPL side that secured Dorgu until 2030 for a €30m ($31.1m) fee, leaving Juventus to look elsewhere.

Saba Goglichidze (center-back)

Goglichidze’s impressive Serie A performances, since signing for Empoli for €500,000 (US$518,000) from Georgian club Torpedo Kutaisi, generated interest from Juventus.

His value has soared to €8 million (US$8.3m) during his 12 months in Italy. The Georgian international was Plan B for Juve head coach Motta, if the loan for Kevin Danso from French outfit Lens fell through. The 20-year-old continues to turn out for relegation-threatened Empoli, but will continue to be monitored by Juve.

David Hancko (center-back/left-back)

The Slovakia international, who helped Feyenoord to clinch the 2022/23 Dutch Eredivisie title, had been heavily linked with a move to either Juventus or Liverpool.

Hancko was always more likely to veer towards his former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, who has been a revelation since being unveiled as Liverpool head coach in the summer. After Juventus brought in Lloyd Kelly from Newcastle United, who snubbed Liverpool to join the Bianconeri, it was expected that the EPL leaders would swoop for the 27-year-old. With no agreement in place, Hancko remains in the Netherlands with Feyenoord.

Murillo (center-back)

The 22-year-old Brazilian had some big clubs tracking him. Admirers included Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Napoli and Real Madrid.

Apart from one game, where Nottingham Forest got hammered 5-0 by AFC Bournemouth, Murillo has been in outstanding form since arriving from Corinthians in August 2023. With Forest the surprise highflyers in this year’s EPL, Murillo ignored the attention of other teams to ink a deal that ties him to the club until the conclusion of the 2028-2029 season.

Jean-Clair Todibo (center-back)

The Barcelona flop, who turned down an offer from Manchester United when playing for OGC Nice, was lined up to fill the gap at Juventus following long–term injuries to the defensive pair of Juan Cabal and Gleison Bremer. He would have joined former Ligue 1 team-mate Khephren Thuram in Turin.

The French Guiana-born defender joined West Ham from Nice last August, on a season-long loan with an option to buy for €42m ($43.8m). However, head coach Julen Lopetegui was given the boot after 20 games. With ex-Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea boss Graham Potter now at the helm, Todibo spoke to Motta about a potential move. A deal was never struck as the Hammers only wanted to send the 25-year-old out on loan with an option to buy.
