Chelsea, Juventus receive boost in Jonathan David transfer race
By Eduardo Razo
Juventus are reportedly eyeing a new No. 9 for next summer, with Jonathan David of LOSC Lille said to be on their radar. However, they could face a hurdle in their pursuit of the Canadian striker.
A recent report from TuttoJuve suggests that the 24-year-old has made his financial expectations clear ahead of a potential free-agent move. David is reportedly seeking €6 million per season, along with a €10 million commission for his agent.
Since joining Lille in 2020, David has scored 97 goals in 201 appearances across all competitions. Other clubs, such as Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle United, have also been linked with the forward.
Journalist believes Jonathan David will leave Lille as free agent
Olivier Letang, president of Lille, discussed several topics in an interview with Tuttosport, including the situation with David.
"David is going through a good period, but even in this case, 'Jona' is performing well because there’s a team behind him, a group, players who work hard and allow him to score goals," Letang told the outlet.
"The key to the game will be the collective effort. Like against Real, the entire club and the whole team will need to play a perfect match if we want to achieve a positive result. Juve is the favorite, but we have our own strengths and arguments to make."
Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia spoke with JuventusNews24 and noted that he doesn't see the Canadian extending his contract with the Ligue 1 side.
"They made him a contract renewal offer at Lille," Bargiggia told the outlet. "There are no signs that he wants to renew, I would be surprised. As I said, [Cristiano] Giuntoli has been following him since his time at Napoli. I am convinced that if he wants to try to sign him, he has the means to do so. There is competition from Inter in Italy, but it's relative.
"Let's not forget that Giuntoli has already snatched two players from the market from Inter: Last year Tiago Djalò and this year [Juan] Cabal, so from this perspective, I would be calm. But there is also the Premier League, with Chelsea having shown interest this summer. However, Juve is definitely working on it and moving its pieces to protect itself and somehow virtually secure, sending signals to Jonathan David."
