Juventus appear to be targeting a new No. 9 for next summer, with Jonathan David of LOSC Lille reportedly on their radar. However, the Italian club could face a setback in pursuing the Canadian striker.
A journalist has cautioned that Juventus will need to monitor two rival teams if they hope to land David. According to a recent report from TuttoJuve, the 24-year-old has made his financial demands clear ahead of a potential free-agent move.
David is said to be asking for €6 million per season, along with a €10 million commission for his agent. These hefty demands could make a move to Juventus difficult, potentially opening the door for Premier League clubs to swoop in.
Since joining Lille in 2020, David has netted 97 goals in 201 appearances across all competitions. Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle United have also been mentioned as potential destinations for the forward.
LOSC Lille look to make a last effort to keep Jonathan David
Olivier Letang, president of Lille, spoke in an interview with Tuttosport, and one topic was David.
Understanding that David has raised his profile more this season and various European clubs are keen on the player, the Ligue 1 side are attempting to make one last effort to keep the striker before he can begin talking to clubs over a pre-contract in January.
"David is going through a good period, but even in this case, 'Jona' is performing well because there’s a team behind him, a group, players who work hard and allow him to score goals," Letang told the outlet (h/t Calciomercato).
"The key to the game will be the collective effort. Like against Real, the entire club and the whole team will need to play a perfect match if we want to achieve a positive result. Juve is the favorite, but we have our own strengths and arguments to make."
