Juventus will try to lure in-form Manchester United star

Juve are one of five clubs who could coax Argentina hot-shot Alejandro Garnacho with the potential promise of Champions League soccer.

Yet Juventus are not guaranteed a place in next term’s continental competition, with a top four finish required. The Bianconeri tackle Bologna and Lazio next month, who are both chasing a Champions League slot.

Spanish side Atletico Madrid, German giants Bayer Leverkusen plus Italian top teams Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli all have a serious interest in adding the explosive winger to their ranks during the summer.

Antonio Conte’s Scudetto-chasing Napoli tabled a bid of €50m (US$57.2m) in January. This was promptly rejected as United allowed Marcus Rashford and Juve target Antony to leave on loan, plus striker Rasmus Hojlund continuing to misfire.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim persuaded INEOS, who have sporting control as co-owners of the 20-time English league champions, not to sell the whizzy winger during the winter transfer window.

Fan favorite

United academy graduate Garnacho is a fan-favorite at Old Trafford, and has recently hit a purple patch. He was among the heroes for United’s staggering Europa League quarter-final comeback against Olympique Lyonnais last week.

He set up the opener against Lyon, his ninth goal assist this term, and has found the back of the net 10 times in what has arguably been a tricky season for United.

The 20-year-old is a valuable asset as far as Amorim and INEOS are concerned, so it would take a considerable bid to prise him away from United before his contract expires in 2028.

Juventus are among his long-term admirers, although should Conte return to the Turin titans this summer then Garnacho will undoubtedly appear high on the Bianconeri wishlist.

Juve have been busy exploring various different striker options, including goal machines across Europe such as Lille’s Jonathan David and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy.

Vlahovic swap

United are weighing up a potential swap of Hojlund for Juve’s Dusan Vlahovic, who is of interest to a plethora of Premier League clubs, although they have interest in other Serie A strikers.

Napoli outcast Victor Ominhen, who is a big hit in the Turkish Supa Lig at Galatasaray, turned down a recent approach from Juventus and his high salary demands are likely to deter United from bringing in the Nigeria international.

United sent scouts to rue an eye over Atalanta attacker Mateo Retegui on Easter Sunday, but the Italian international failed to score in the 1-0 triumph at AC Milan.

Retegui may well become a Juve player should Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini opt to join Juventus in the summer. He could end up playing alongside Garnacho for the Bianconeri.

United will understandably be reluctant to sell Garnacho if they win the Europa League, because they would earn a berth in next season’s highly lucrative Champions League.

When Garnacho was struggling under Erik Ten Hag at United, a loan move to any European titan would have seemed to be a good move.

Yet the youngster, who has already won the FA Cup and League Cup at United, now oozes with confidence after developing under Amorim and has the makings of a future superstar at United.
